Prosecutors disclosed the decision in court documents Friday. They did not say why they were not seeking the death penalty.

Less than a week after the 2005 storm, two people were killed and four others were wounded by police on the Danziger Bridge. The shootings led to a widespread investigation of the police department.

Five former officers already have pleaded guilty to charges they helped cover up the shootings. Prosecutors have said police fabricated witnesses, falsified reports and plotted to plant a gun to make it appear that the shootings were justified.

Rapper Foxy Brown, demure and without her customary posse, pleaded not guilty Friday to violating an order of protection against her neighbor – including an alleged mooning incident.

Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, faces one year in prison on a misdemeanor count of criminal contempt, according to an indictment voted by a grand jury following her arrest in July according to the New York Daily News.

“I’m happy,” she said outside the Brooklyn courtroom, referring to the grand jury not indicting her on the original felony arrest charges and two other misdemeanors that could have resulted in a seven year prison sentence.

Brown was busted after her Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, neighbor, Alice Raymond, accused her of screaming obscenities, exposing her butt, and screaming “Kiss my black a–” during an encounter on the street.

The order of protection dates back to 2007 when Brown smacked Raymond with a Blackberry phone.

But Friday, Brown was subdued and silent in the courtroom while her lawyer Salvatore Strazzullo entered her plea, and she spoke on the street mostly to complain to a reporter that her case wasn’t getting enough play in the media.

“What about that long interview I gave you, what happened to that?” she said, referring to brief comments she made on Tuesday.

Friday was Brown’s fourth recent appearance at the courthouse in this case, and in addition to shedding her original seven-person entourage, she also shed her customary teal mid-thigh-length dress for tight beige jeans, a tight beige sweater and a brown leather jacket.

Meanwhile, the order of protection was continued, and the case was adjourned until Nov. 16.

The New York Daily News reports that Shellyann Henry, 32, discovered the X-rated DVD in the family’s Bushwick home Thursday night and confronted her husband.

They began to fight – in front of one of their children – and Henry grabbed a kitchen knife.

Police said she repeatedly plunged the knife into Rudolph Henry‘s chest about 9:40 p.m., bringing a violent end to what neighbors say had long been tumultuous relationship.

“She’s a great mom, but she lost it,” said neighbor Dawn Springs, 26. “She was screaming to police that he [had] porn with their 4-year-old son.”

The accused killer dropped the bloody knife and called 911. Police and paramedics raced to the scene, but Rudolph Henry couldn’t be saved. His wife stayed in the third-floor apartment on Wilson Ave. where she was arrested.

She was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Shellyann Henry has three children – 17, 4, and a newborn. Investigators believe the 4-year-old boy witnesses the murder.

Neighbors said the couple frequently fought, but a NYPD spokesman said no domestic violence incidents had been reported to police.

Prosecutors said defendant Jonathan Fajardo was a member of an Hispanic gang that targeted blacks.

The jury deliberated for two days before finding Fajardo guilty of shooting eighth-grader Cheryl Green in a driveway in the Harbor Gateway neighborhood in 2006.

Fajardo told police during interviews that the missing gun in the attack could be used against other blacks, police, rival gang members or snitches, prosecutors said.

Jurors will now be asked to recommend whether Fajardo, 22, should be sentenced to death or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The jury also convicted Fajardo and co-defendant Daniel Aguilar, 23, of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of 25-year-old Christopher Ash, a potential witness to the shooting of Green.

Prosecutors said Aguilar lured Ash, his friend, to a garage where he was stabbed about 80 times. Aguilar could face life in prison without parole.

Deputy District Attorney Gretchen Ford told jurors that even though Aguilar didn’t stab Ash, he was just as guilty of murder as those who did.

Green was hanging out with friends after school about a block from her house when she was shot. Three other teens were wounded.

The attack sparked protests by residents, activists and politicians.

The two-week trial detailed alleged violence used by the gang to maintain its power in the neighborhood.

Conyers is scheduled to turn herself in to the Federal Bureau of Prisons by Friday to start serving a 37-month sentence for corruption.

She was sentenced in March after she pleaded guilty in June 2009 to taking at least $6,000 in cash bribes.

Conyers was supposed to go to prison around July 1, but U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn extended the date until Sept. 10, after she said a close relative was having surgery this summer and needed her support.

The basis of Conyers’ appeal is that Cohn did not allow her to withdraw her guilty plea on the day she was sentenced.

(AP) ― When a student at New Jersey City University alerted school officials that a reimbursement check she’d been given for student government activities had bounced, they decided to take a closer look at the books.

They discovered, to the shock of university officials, that the student government organization’s reserve fund had been looted to near depletion, and nearly one-quarter of the regular funds had been siphoned off over a three-year period.

Now, a long time employee of the school has been charged, along with four others, in what prosecutors say was a multiyear scheme that bilked more than $400,000 from a fund that students pay into each semester for student government and extracurricular activities.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says 21-year-old Arsenio Willey, 22-year-old Curtis Shearer and 38-year-old Kimberly Jackson, all of Jersey City, conspired to steal money by cashing unauthorized checks.

None of the three worked for or attended the university, but officials say they conspired with alleged ringleaders Shaunette Moody, the 48-year-old suspended office manager of the university’s student government organization, and her 51-year-old husband, Alexander.

The NYPD says Jacqueline Wesley-Rosa was arrested Wednesday on murder and criminal possession of a weapon charges.

Police say the victim, Patricia Wilson, was found shot once in the chest earlier in the day outside the apartment building in the East New York section.

The 55-year-old woman was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.

It was not immediately clear if Wesley-Rosa had an attorney. There was no phone listing for the 49-year-old woman.

Gloria Govan made the comments in a statement issued Thursday.

Barnes was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of domestic violence after deputies responded to a disconnected 911.

Sacramento County sheriff’s spokesman Tim Curran says when deputies went to the home that Barnes shares with Govan late Wednesday afternoon they found her with visible injuries.

Curran says Barnes was arrested after deputies determined he was the primary aggressor.

Barnes, released after posting a $50,000 bond, is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 13.

Federal investigators say Bobby Ferguson, 41, used “dishonest means” to obtain millions of dollars in city contracts, the Detroit Free Press reported. They say he also illegally dumped construction debris at the site of a planned housing project and was then paid by the city to haul the trash to a landfill.

The indictment unsealed Wednesday by a federal judge in Detroit names Ferguson, three business associates and three companies, Ferguson Enterprises, XCEL Construction Services and A&F Environmental/Johnson Construction Services.

Ferguson is expected to be arraigned Monday, The Detroit News said.

While he made no public comment Wednesday, he has been defiant about the ongoing investigation, suggesting minority business owners would be afraid to seek public contracts because of the probe.

The News said he wrote about the investigation earlier this year on his blog, “When did it become a crime having a friendship with someone in public office?”

“She alleges he hit her. We’re looking for him to get his side of the story,” said Officer Barbara Morgan, a Las Vega police spokeswoman. “We’re looking to talk to him as a potential suspect.”

No warrant was issued, and no charges were immediately filed.

Mayweather, 33, is undefeated as a professional fighter. He goes by the nickname “Money” and is considered one of the sport’s top performers.

Mayweather has been arrested before on battery and assault allegations.

He was acquitted by a Nevada jury in July 2005 after being accused of hitting and kicking Josie Harris during an argument outside a Las Vegas nightclub.

At trial, Harris, the 25-year-old mother of three of Mayweather’s children, testified she had lied to police because she was angry Mayweather left her for another woman.

Harris filed the complaint currently being investigated by police.

Attorney Richard Wright, who represented Mayweather in the 2005 case, told The Associated Press on Thursday that he was talking with police about the new case, but Mayweather had not surrendered for questioning.

“We’re addressing it with law enforcement,” Wright said. “We will cooperate with them professionally and as required by law.”

Mayweather wasn’t at a southwest Las Vegas house when officers responded to the domestic violence complaint a little after 5 a.m. Thursday, Morgan said.

Harris was later taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that police Officer Bill Cassell said weren’t described as serious.

Mayweather has a record of 41-0 with 25 knockouts. He earned more than $20 million in May from his fight in Las Vegas against “Sugar” Shane Mosley.
